Busy, busy bee...

I've been a bit busy lately so haven't posted. School started, boyfriend is in Africa for a few weeks, blah, blah, blah.

I have some stuff that I'm working on when I get moments and will take pics when I get a chance.

Until then, this is cool...

Beret Awesomeness...

I gave up on making my sister a pidge scarf.  They all looked terrible.
Instead, I decided on giving a beret a shot. I really liked the one Corrine made in this episode.
I wrote down her instructions so that you don't have to.

ch=chain    sc=single crochet     *=Rep from * to end of row

ch 8 and sc in first loop to connect
Row 1- 2sc in each ch
Row 2- *1sc each in ch1-3, 2sc in ch.
Row 3- 1sc in each all around
Row 4- 2sc in each all around
Row 5- *1sc each in ch1-4, 2sc in ch5
Row 6- 1sc in each all around
Row 7- *1sc each in ch1-5, 2sc in ch6
Row 8- 1sc in each all around
Rows 9-Whatever- from here on, you will repeat the pattern of *1sc each in ch1-6, 2sc in 7 with an increase of 1 in each row. Go on until you get to 1sc in each in ch 1-12, 2sc in 13.
Now, sc around and around and around until you feel that it is deep enough.
When you are ready to finish...
Final 2 Rows- *1sc each in 1-3, skip 4, 1sc in 5
Last Row- *1sc each in 1-3, skip 4 and 5, 1sc in 6
That's it for Corrine's directions. I did one more sc row to finish off.

This is about what it will look like before you begin your rows of sc for depth.

Done.

And done.
My next one will be deeper I think, but I like it.

Refashioned skirt

I can't remember how long I've had this GoodWill skirt sitting in my closet. I was actually about to re-donate it, when it occurred to me that the material and fabric color are pretty cool.

It went from this hideous thing...

To this cute pencil skirt.

Ok, so the second pic is me fixing my shoes, but hey, I just colored my hair. Gotta show it off.

Update on the Gifts post.

Blocked the red scarf and was amazed at how soft it became. Just took the top spot for my favorite pidge scarf.
I was super scared that it would be scratchy forever.

Again, Tunisian crochet is the easiest thing ever.

Additionally, I unwound the purple scarf and have gone granny square crazy.
Blanket? Bag? Pillows?

If you don't know how to make them, there is a lovely tutorial here.

Anywho, I should really be spending time with my boyfriend as he's headed to Nigeria on Friday.

Gifts...

So, I'm mostly finished with my x-mas presents for my sister and cousins.
Pidge scarves for everyone! Mostly though, they are really easy to make.

This was made from Bernat Baby Coordinates in Baby Pink. I used a sz4 crochet hook and just did a ton of half double stitches.
Still needs buttons, but I think this one is my favorite so far.

This was made from Red Heart 100% acrylic something or other. I used a J crochet hook used the Tunisian crochet method. Super easy!
This piece desperately needs to be blocked.

I have no idea what I made this one from because I am dumb and lost my little name thingy for it.
Anyhow, it is super fluffy and loose and hard to work with. The only reason I didn't give up is because it is soo soft!
I worked sc into the dc using my trusty J crochet hook.
Actually, the more I look at this, the more I dislike it. Time to start over. :P

Starting Today...

I took the pledge... no more store-bought new clothes for me.

"I pledge that i shall refashion, renovate, recycle preloved items for myself with my own hands in fabric, yarn or other medium for the term of my contract."

Time to start documenting my work.

Oh yea, my name is Sam. Little bit about me: I am a student in a general nursing program in Florida. Historically, though, I am a geek. I learned to sew corsets from friends that I LARPed (look it up) with in Atlanta. I took off from there and learned to crochet, hand embroider, stencil on clothing, etc.
Thank you internet.

The purpose of this bloggie thing is to document what I have learned as well as throw some ideas out to people who want to try new things.
